  • Thank you Ali, George and Marco for your comments. Bristol was the centre of tobacco production in the UK. W.D. & H.O. Wills & Co, (later to become the Imperial Tobacco Company then later British Tobacco and even later to be renamed British-American Tobacco) had its head office in Bristol. Bristol was also the site of the first commercial production of chocolate in the UK (J. Fry later to become part of Cadbury's) was based in Bristol, It is a major engineering centre (BAC aircraft, including the Anglo-French Concorde, Bristol Cars & Buses, Imperial Smelting,) all had or has a home in Bristol. One of the UKs leading universities is based in Bristol, Bristol certainly features fondly in my memories of my childhood.

  • Would you believe it Ivor the first time I heard about Bristol was in my childhood days when dad brought home a packet of Bristol cigarettes. Not that he was a keen smoker as he only had one cig per day.
The real BRISTOL is England's sixth, and the United Kingdom's eighth most populous city, one of the group of English Core Cities and the most populous city in South West England. Our Ivor was born here, a child out of a population of over 400,000, almost the whole population of Malta.
This city has its charm ranking amongst the top three English cities after London, alongside York and Norwich.
Good of you Ivor to share your birthplace with us.
