    • Scenario
      Two Characters
      Dave, CIO
      Chris, IT Consultant
Dave used Chris’ consulting company to originally move into SharePoint. He has brought the company back in to assist in the 2007-2010 migration.
Dave needs Chris’ help designing a new information architecture in 2010.
    • Why Migrate to 2010?
      Content type publishing
      Managed Metadata
Better support for rich media categorization
      Search improvements (facets, federation, etc.)
      Document Sets
      Social features
    • The Most Important Thing
Do not simply upgrade your existing environment and call it a day!
    • What Hasn’t Changed?
Content types are unchanged from 2010.
Associating content types to lists/libraries remains unchanged.
Other than the managed metadata columns, the provided columns are unchanged.
The same process used to generate 2007 information architectures is still utilized for 2010.
    • Benefits of Past Implementation
Allows reflection of what did and didn’t work.
      Eases training to end users.
      Content analysis is more structured.
Logging is provided to improve areas like search.
    • IA Design Approach
      Conduct end/power user interviews
Watch user’s workflow and experience with the existing system
      Run content type audits
      Site Content Report in MetaVis
      Architect view
Conduct content analysis (Moving From the Faithful File Share)
      Identify, remove and consolidate information.
    • IA Design Approach
      Managed Metadata
Identify 2007 columns that can be moved to term store.
Migrate from existing third-party solution into term store (if utilized).
      Help client structure term store.
Determine if system-wide tagging is desired (enterprise keywords column).
Identify any additional list, library or site templates necessary for content categorization.
