  • Call to Prayer
    • Grade 6:
    • 1. Blow the trumpet! Announce a fast!
    • 2. Call a prayerful assembly!
    • Gather the people!
    • 1. Bless the congregation!
    • 2. Assemble the elders, and gather
    • the children!
    • 1 and 2:
    • Turn now to the LORD, your God,
    • with all your heart!
  • Response
    • All:
    • O God, we turn to you now
    • with all our hearts,
    • for you are gracious and merciful,
    • slow to anger, and great in kindness.
    • Now is the time to turn away from sin,
    • and be faithful!
    • † Sign of the Cross
    • Reader 1:
    • Reader 2:
    • Today we remember why Christians
    • are marked with the sign of the Cross.
    • All:
    • Jesus, today you invite us
    • to travel with you on this journey
    • of Lent. Now is the time to begin.
    • Hear our prayers this day and
    • help us to know our weaknesses.
    • During these days of Lent,
    • support our efforts to avoid sin
    • and to trust in your great love
    • for us. Amen.
  • Reader: During Lent, we must pray more, we must love more, and we must fast from doing wrong.
    • All:
    • With God’s help,
    • we will try our best
    • to pray,
    • to love,
    • and to fast
    • from doing wrong.
    • The Word of God
    • Grade 6:
    • Jesus tells us:
    • When you pray do so quietly. Go off by
    • yourself and don’t worry about what others
    • think of you.
    • When you do something kind, do not “toot
    • your own horn” so others will praise you.
    • When you fast, do not look unhappy,
    • like the hypocrites, for they do so only
    • so others will notice them. No, when you fast,
    • keep it to yourself,
    • so your fasting will be known
    • only to your Father in heaven.
    • To praise and thank God is the only reward we need!
    • All:
    • Dear Lord, your love and your grace are the only reward
    • we need!
  • The Lord’s Prayer Grade 6: The Lord hears the prayers of all who call on him. Let us pray to the Lord to keep us faithful to our Lenten promises and to help us overcome evil by doing good. All: Our Father, who art in heaven… Will you turn away from sin And be faithful to the Gospel? Yes, I will.
  • Closing Prayer
    • Reader:
    • During these days of Lent, help us, Lord,
    • To fast from judging others so we can feast on the Christ dwelling in them.
    • To fast from seeing differences; so we can feast on the unity of life.
    • To fast from words that pollute so we can feast on compliments that purify.
    • To fast from complaining so we can feast on being grateful.
    • To fast from worrying so we can feast on prayers that strengthen us.
  • All: Be with us, Lord, during these days of Lent. Increase our love for you, our families and all your people. Amen.
