Analyze marketing techniques (check spots) and then follow Windows Movie Maker or iMovie to
produce a commercial using basic video equipment.
1. A Look at Commercials
Analyze sample commercials. Using advertisements, examine:
• target audience
• selling techniques
• hidden messages
• spot the stereotypes
2. A Look at Movie Maker
Prepare for the creation of your own ad.
Storyboard in Windows Movie Maker
Import files, and edit the content by deleting clips, applying video effects, adding transitions,
inserting text overlays, and importing music. The goal is to discover the capabilities of the program
while practicing techniques that will be used in producing an original commercial.
3. A Look at the Camera
To start, study a commercial to notice the types of shots, angles, and camera movement. Once
familiar with how a camera can be used to communicate information to an audience, learn how to
record quality video.
Basic Video Equipment
No high-tech devices are required. If you have a video camera, digital camera for photos, or just a
web cam, you can complete the activities.
