  12. 12. ASSUMPTIONS By the age of 30 I will be married and have kids. A stable family is composed of a father, a mother and children. Depression is a mood and people can snap out of it. Shrinks are for those who are crazy. I’ll never die… or that is too far away to think about. Women are more emotional and caring. Men are good managers and more practical. Poor children are intellectually inferior. Private schools offer better education. A real love relationship is always between a man and a woman. Learning Math is more important than learning English. If she is born rich, she’ll die rich. if she is born poor, she’ll die poor. Americans are more practical than Latinos are. Europeans have more education than Americans do. Native speakers of English can teach their language better than non-natives do. Youth is over when you reach your 30’s.

  15. 15. CRITICAL REFLECTION While discourse is frequently driven by that which is understood in one's societal context, critical reflection requires the learner to move outside the traditional boundaries in order to evaluate truth in a new way. Critical reflection is the shift from repression of an experience that does not fit the existing framework to a new orientation designed to accommodate the experience. By S. Brookfield Mauricio Miraglia- UAH instructor
  16. 16. Negotiating what and how we study on the basis of learners’ experiences and opinions is an approach that embodies the tone of respect for, and responsiveness to people’s lives and voices Mauricio Miraglia- UAH instructor
