What is the Social Web?Love it! Especially the homework part (heh!). My only comment is that you have "all rights reserved" and yet using a few CC items (like Rob Cottingham’s Social Signal, which is also social signal). I used the CC share alike similar license for that reason (because it’s non commercial). I appreciate that you cited my homework idea in a tweet but I’d challenge you to license this with a share and share alike so others may make use of your material as you have done.7 months ago

Purdue Tlt 09 RobbinsEat your heart out Larry Lessig! In addition to unpacking a provocative topic (scary scary for many academics!) with insight, humour and heart, Robbins does so in a lively animated format that takes slide-sharing to a whole nother level. This is some phat loot for those of us looking to level up in the big battle that is technology adoption in education (and elsewhere - just change the titles and this would apply in any field). One of my favourite slides is near the end. It’s about reconciliation and "taking off armour" ... this battle isn’t about winners and losers. This is a battle that can result in a PAX Romana - if only we know how to approach it. To extend the battle references further, take the young and wrathful Achilles. He’s ready for battle - and nothing but. Problem is, he lacks the foresight to consider what is honorable and decent and needed in post-war society. He drags Hectors body around, refuses a proper burial and acts like a general ass. Until, that is, he gets enlightened. Those of us who wish to rush into battle seeking only to settle the score, will not foster the conditions needed to inspire real harmony between old and useful knowledge/history/expertise and new ways of doing things. We must have the readiness and ferocity of an Achilles, but the ripeness and reason of a sage, humble Ulysses if we’re to win this battle for all.7 months ago

Beyond Blocking: Embracing the Social Webaww thanks David! I’m still learning. I need to get rid of bullet points. Got to get out of the client-side way of thinking about presenting ... I’d like to go Lessig but damn that’s a lot of work finding visuals!8 months ago

Beyond Blocking: Embracing the Social Webetalbert - thank you! I was initially reluctant to share it - I often don’t have a lot of time for presentations so I can’t do anything really ’Lessig’ ... I also really focus on the storytelling and oral unpacking so the slides are sort of secondary for me. I also want to get a bit more presentation zen (and go bulletless - they are a crutch for me still!). I hope to do some more creative stuff with my presentations.8 months ago
