  • 1. Bell Ringer Get the BLUE textbooks and open to page 23 Look at the map and answer the following questions  List the 5 groups that might have depended on fish for survival  List 3 groups that might have depended on farming for survival  What Indian Cultural Groups make up North Carolina

Native Americans of North Carolina• UEQ: Who settled North American and North Carolina and what kind of Culture did they develop to survive?• Lesson Essential Question: By the end of the lesson you will be able to Identify who settled present day North Carolina and what kind of culture did they develop to survive

Do On Your Own• Read the section “A Well shap’d Clean made People”• In your notebook answer the following questions – What were the 5 largest Native American Groups? – How many Native Americans Lived in present day North Carolina? THEN• Discuss with your table to make sure everyone has the same answer!
  • 4. THINK, PAIR, SHARE• You will be working with the people NEXT to you to answer questions. NOT YOUR WHOLE TABLE!• Each slide will tell you to either THNK, PAIR, OR SHARE – Follow the directions on the slide• Think- you do on your own• Pair and Share you work with the person next to you.

  • 7. Do On Your Own• Read “Leaving a Mark on the Land” and answer the following questions – How did the natives people of North Carolina trace their Ancestry? – How did Native Americans view Plants and Animals THEN• Discuss with your table to make sure everyone has the same answer!

  • 10. Summarizing• Write at least 4 sentences (3 sentences each) answering the following questions: – What Native Americans settled the Americas? – What Native Americans settled present day North Carolina? – What kind of culture did the Native Americans develop to survive ?
