1.
2. Did you know that blue whales can be
up to 100 feet long?
They are the world’s largest mammals.
Blue whales use tail flukes to swim in the
ocean. Flippers help them steer.
3. Blue whales often spend summers
feeding in polar waters and go on long
migrations toward the equator as winter
arrives.
Between 10,000 and 25,000 blue whales
are believed to still swim the world’s
oceans.
4. Blue whales eat about 2,000 - 9,000
pounds of krill per day. That’s like eating
8,000 – 36,000 cheeseburgers per day to
eat the same amount that blue whales
eat.
5. Baby blue whales are called calves. The
adult stage begins the moment the
mother leaves the child.
Their average life span in the wild is 80-
90 years.
6. Blue whales’ predators are people.
Groups of orcas (killer whales) have
been known to attack and kill young
blue whales.
7. A blue whale is the largest animal that
ever lived on this planet. They can reach
100 feet in length. Their length equals the
length of two school buses.
