The Great Barrier Reef
By Andrew and Jordan
A coral reef is a sea structure made out of living organisms which together form a wall.
What is a coral reef ?
Coral Reefs are made from lots of beautiful corals and animals from the ocean world.
How are coral reefs built ?
Turtles, sharks, starfish, clams, sea urchins, fish live in the Great Barrier Reef.
Creatures that Live In The Great Barrier Reef!
The Great Barrier Reef is off the east coast of Queensland.
Where is the Great Barrier Reef ?
One of them is the Mushroom coral and it lives on coral reefs with hard corals. Soft corals eat plankton and small fish.
Two Types of coral!
Coral Polyps
Brain coral
They are fishing, snorkelling and scuba diving.
What are three ways people use the Great Barrier Reef?
The crown-of-thorns is a threat because it sucks coral polyps into its body and then there will be no polyps left.
One way to stop the Crown- of-thorns starfish is to stop the spread of the Crown-of-thorns starfish is to stop overfishing and let the predators of the Crown- of-thorns starfish eat it!
Crown-of-thorns starfish
Oil Spills!
Oil spills pollute the Great Barrier Reef and the animals drink the oil and die.
The people are trying to stop oil spills by not letting ships go into the Great Barrier Reef.
Ship anchors are a threat to the Great Barrier Reef because they destroy the corals under the surface of the reef.
People are trying to stop ship anchors from going in the reef by not letting ships go in the reef.
SHIP ANCHORS
To stop threats of the Crown-of-thorns starfish we should stop over fishing the trumpet shell and the trigger fish.
To stop ship anchors, we don’t allow big ships to throw their huge anchors into the reef.
To stop oil spills we don’t let big ships with oil to go into the beautiful reef.
What are people doing to preserve the Reef
