What is a coral reef? A reef consists of coral turned into limestone.
How are coral reefs built? Coral reefs are made by groups of coral called polyps growing together and making limestone.
Where is the great barrier reef? The great barrier reef is just off the coast of Queensland.
What types of sea creatures live there Turtles, sea snakes, lots of fish, heaps of coral and a whole lot more live or pass by there.
Three threats. Climate change Crown-of-thorns Soil erosion
Effect on GBR For ‘climate change’ algae are going away from the coral so the coral turns white. This is called coral bleaching. The crown-of-thorns are eating coral. For the soil erosion. The soil is killing fish and lots of other things. NOOOOO!
What are people doing to stop the threats? For climate change people are trying to stop using so many things that can destroy the reef. For the crown-of-thorns starfish people are trying to not overfish and have put restrictions on fishing. Finally what are people doing to stop soil erosion? Well they are not cutting down so many trees and are planting more trees.
Preserve the reef! People are preserving the beautiful reef by saying that you cannot take anything from the reef or kill some endangered fish. I hope you obey the rules and don’t kill the reef but help to protect it. If you do you will be helping to save some beautiful creatures and save the reef!
