• Great barrier reef by Jack G and Ryan

    1. 1. THE GREAT BARRIER REEF
BY RYAN AND JACK
2. 2. A CORAL REEF IS ASEA STRUCTURE MADE OUT OF LIVING ORGANISMS WHICH FORM A WALL TOGETHER. THE ORGANISMS IN THE GREAT BARRIER REEF ARE CALLED CORAL POLYPS.
WHAT IS A CORAL REEF?
3. 3. Coral reefs are built by fish and tiny things called coral polyps.
When coral polyps produce baby coral polyps they grow bigger and keep spawning eggs.
How are Coral Reefs built ?
4. 4. WHERE IS THE GREAT BARRIERREEF?
The GBR is from 15 kilometres to 150 kilometres of the Queensland shoreline.
It goes from Cape York all the way down to Gladstone.
5. 5. Brain coral is in the family called Faviidae.
Fan coral is also known as Gorgonain.
Two types of coral
6. 6. Sharks
Fish
Rays
Dugongs
Eels
Turtles
Dolphins
Whales
Crustaceans
Invertabreas
Starfish
Algae
Polyps
Sea creatures that live there
7. 7. Three ways people can use the
Great Barrier reef are:
Snorkelling
Boating
Researching
Three ways people use the GBR
8. 8. The Crown of Thorns Starfish is just one of many threats to the GBR. The Crown of Thorns Starfish is a threat because it eats coral polyps. There are certain fish that eat The Crown of Thorns Starfish but if we overfish there will be none of those fish left and there will be too many Crown of Thorns Starfish and there will be no more coral polyps left, so we must not overfish.
Crown of Thorns Starfish
9. 9. Litter is another threat to the GBR. Litter is consumed by sea creatures that think it is food, therefore we must stop littering or all the animals in the GBR will become extinct.
Litter
10. 10. Our last threat is an oil spill. Oil spills are created when oil tankers go of course and crash into reefs. To stop this we must make it that every ship stays on the marine highways.
Oil spills
11. 11. So after learning about the GBR wouldn’t you agree with us that it is the best reef in the world?
THE END
