    I will explain everything

  • Where is the Great Barrier Reef?
    The Great Barrier Reef is off the coast of Queensland near Cairns.

  • What types of sea creatures live there?
    One type of sea creature that lives at the Great Barrier Reef is the turtle. It breeds in summer for 7-12 weeks at a time and disposes of it’s millions of eggs. Another type of sea creature is the Biscuit Sea Star.

  • What is a coral reef?
    A coral reef consists of millions of coral polyps of all different kinds, shapes and sizes.

  • How is a coral reef made?
    A coral reef is made when coral polyps die and leave their skeleton behind.

  • What are some things that people use coral reefs for?
    Some things people use coral reefs for are swimming, sightseeing and crashing into with ships making an oil spill.

  • Threats to the Great Barrier Reef
    One threat is the Crown-Of-Thorns-Starfish which eats coral.
    Another threat is the fishing industry and over fishing.
    The last threat but one of the worst threats are anchors.

    If people over fish and not notice, there will not be so many beautiful fish to see.

    The Crown-of-thorns star fish eats coral. This means not so much coral and smaller reefs.

    Anchors are a threat because they crush coral and kill fish.

  • What is being done to stop the threats?
    Now you have to have a license to fish in a small boats and you are not allowed to boat in or near reefs. The Trigger fish and Trumpet shell eats the Crown-Of-Thorns starfish.
