  3. 3. TEKS Standard <ul><li>§116.4. Physical Education, Grade 2. </li></ul><ul><li>(3) Physical activity and health. The student exhibits a health enhancing, physically-active lifestyle that improves health and provides opportunities for enjoyment and challenge. The student is expected to: </li></ul><ul><li>(A) describe and select physical activities that provide opportunities for enjoyment and challenge; </li></ul><ul><li>(B) participate in moderate to vigorous physical activities on a daily basis that cause increased heart rate, breathing rate, and perspiration; </li></ul><ul><li>(C) participate in appropriate exercises for flexibility in shoulders, legs, and trunk; and </li></ul><ul><li>(D) lift and support his/her weight in selected activities that develop muscular strength and endurance of the arms, shoulders, abdomen, back, and legs such as hanging, hopping, and jumping. </li></ul>
  4. 4. The Mystery Deck <ul><li>The materials that are needed are…. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Full Deck of Playing Cards </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Chart demonstrating what each suit and number represents. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>It is optional to provide small prizes. </li></ul></ul>

Procedures <ul><li>Divide students into groups of two. </li></ul><ul><li>Place cards randomly on a flat surface. </li></ul><ul><li>Have each group decide who will choose the card first and who will exercise. </li></ul><ul><li>Have instructor say “Ready, Set, Go” </li></ul><ul><li>The student will run up to the instructor and choose a random card from the deck. </li></ul>

Continue….. <ul><li>Then the student will look at their card and match the picture and number to the chart and see what exercise will be done. </li></ul><ul><li>The students with the card will tell their partner what needs to be done. </li></ul><ul><li>Each exercise will need to be completed correctly and counted correctly before another card is chosen. </li></ul><ul><li>Switch roles with your partner after each exercise and continue following previous steps for about 10 minutes until they have been completed by each group. </li></ul><ul><li>Remember, the team who completes the most exercises first will win the game. </li></ul>
