TECHNOLOGY USE VS. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION Melissa Lewis Sept. 28, 2007 W401
Technology Use
Refers to the use of electronic equipment.
Technology Integration
Refers to the productive use of technology in the classroom by teachers and students.
“ Technology Integration is a term used by educators to describe effective uses of technology by teachers and students in K-12 and university classrooms.”
Are They Different or the Same?
I believe that technology use and technology integration need to be used simultaneously to be effective.
Without proper knowledge of how to use technology, teachers and students can not integrate it into their classrooms.
The Effects of Technology Integration in a Classroom Environment
“ Technology applications can support higher-order thinking by engaging students in authentic, complex tasks within collaborative learning contexts."
“ Instead of focusing on isolated, skills-based uses of technology, schools should promote the use of various technologies for sophisticated problem-solving and information-retrieving purposes.”
Can help create a more fluent and experienced citizen.
Different Ways to Integrate Technology in the Classroom
Students and teachers can both use PowerPoint to create presentations to communicate material
Have students use internet access to look up information on a specific topic
Students have pen pals from other countries and can write them using the internet.
Use other sources of technology in the classroom to make lessons more enjoyable
Ex. Interactive whiteboards, class performance clickers, overhead projectors, and digital cameras
