Rim and Verizon: Rekindle the fire

  1. 1. RIM and Verizon: Rekindle the Fire?
  2. 2. Some say that a relationship starts with friendship, develops with a little romance, and ends up very intimate. Both share mutual understanding, strong feelings, andhave established a solid bond. Perfect as it seems, other relationships come to abitter close. Many reasons may contribute to such a fateful dismay. We may not beanticipating these moments but they happen nonetheless. These kinds ofrelationships don’t happen in love, but they can happen everywhere. It may be likewhen you sell BlackBerryand find a new one.In communications, smartphone manufacturerRIMand Verizon used to be veryclose because Verizonused to a big distributer of BlackBerry phones. But in the mostrecent unfolding of events, Android and Apple are the most profitablesmartphones. It seems natural that companies like Verizon want to distribute suchphenomenal phones. So, there came a time when BlackBerry phones were left outin the shadows and stayed single in the long run. Verizon preferred popularsmartphones because it remains a strong competitor against AT&T, another bigsmartphone distributer in the US. With BlackBerry phones unable to catch up withthe hype, AT&T and Verizon fought over popular phones promising large distributionshares in the market. Windows Phones also came onto the scene by joining with thepublicity. Receiving great reviews and expecting high market demands, theWindows Phone, with the Nokia Lumia smartphones are flagship products, isexpected to get a good chunk of what’s left from Android and Apple. The holidays are coming and people are selling BlackBerry to look for bettersmartphones, like Samsung’s S3 or iPhone 5. RIM seems to be nonchalant by market
  3. 3. behavior. The holidays mean a good chance to receive profit and rise to theoccasion once more. If RIM doesn’t catch such an opportunity, then it should keepthe habit of waiting. Apparently, RIM prefers waiting. With its plans of perfecting itsfuture flagship product, the BlackBerry 10, RIM has decided to keep its own pace, regardless of people pressuring them to release the BlackBerry 10 soon. RIM hasbeen releasing chunks of information regarding its flagship smartphone on theworldwide web and press releases.RIM needs to hasten their pace because they might eventually fade into the bigpicture. So, they have been thinking ways of appealing to users, especially theirpatrons, to come back to BlackBerry. They have tapped Microsoft’s WindowMarketplace to open up BlackBerry 10to numerous apps. They have contactedHTC to possibly market their phones and they will probably open it to Android. But,the biggest problem they have is where to distribute their phones. RIM wants torekindle their strong ties with Verizon, who happens to be the biggest phonedistributer in the US. On the other hand, Verizon is not as open as RIM because theysee BlackBerry phones as unpopular compared to Samsung’s S3 or iPhone. Is it time to rekindle the once formidable connection? Perhaps. BlackBerry has tospark the fire to rekindle their relationship once more before Verizon’s favor melts. But for now, it’s still in the making and many peopletrade in BlackBerryto get thepopular Samsung S3 or iPhone 5.Source:http://technogoblog.wordpress.com/2012/09/17/rim-and-verizon-rekindle-the-fire/
