  3. 3. Olly’s background Oliver Stanley "Olly" Murs (born 14 May 1984) is an English singer-songwriter, musician and television presenter. Murs rose to fame after finishing as the runner-up in the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009. He is currently signed to Epic Records in the United Kingdom, Columbia Records in the United States, and Syco Music. In late August 2010, Murs released his debut single "Please Don't Let Me Go", which debuted at number one on the UK Singles Charts, becoming Murs' s first number one single after releasing "You Are Not Alone" with the other series 6 finalists. "Please Don't Let Me Go" received a Gold certification by the BPI. He released his second single from his debut album "Thinking of Me" which charted at number four on the UK Singles Charts, however the single also got a Silver certification by the BPI. "Heart Skips a Beat" was released and became his second number-one hit. Murs' first single from his follow up album In Case You Didn't Know, "Dance with Me Tonight", became his third to reach number one. In November 2010, Murs released his self-titled debut album, which entered the UK Albums Chart at number two, with the biggest week one album sales for a debut album in 2010, with over 108,000 albums sold. The album went on to sell over 600,000 copies, and was certificated double platinum by the BPI. In November 2011, Murs released his second album, In Case You Didn't Know, which entered the charts at number one and has spawned two number-one singles. To date, Murs has sold over 10 million records worldwide. In May 2011, it was announced that Murs would return to The X Factor to co-present spin-off show The Xtra Factor with Caroline Flack. His third album Right Place Right Time and so far has released three singles from it, the first, "Troublemaker" which became his fourth number one, the second "Army of Two" which reached number twelve, and the third "Dear Darlin'" which reached number five. 9. 9. The song ‘Dear Darlin’ is written about a relationship that has gone bad. The first scene is quite dark showing the audience the feel of the video. This implies that the music video is relatively sad. We get a close up of Olly’s face which within the video is sad due to the lyrics of what the song is about, the setting is still the same implying that the story line behind the video is affecting him.
  10. 10. In the video, Olly is singing about his past relationship that he is somewhat ‘dwelling’ over. There is an over lay of him and his ex girlfriend within in the shot doing things such as moving in together. Throughout the music video the audience begin to understand what Olly has been through and there for the lyrics correspond to video within. You then get the next scene where the ex girlfriend is also involved and the story being told is a ‘typcial’ love story, boy meets girl, falls in love and breaks up. You get scenes of both sides of the relationship and this puts the audience into their shoes.
  11. 11. This is where the title of the song is embedded into Ollys music video. The title of the song suggests he is sending a letter to his ‘ex’, here is where we get the confirmation that he is trying to win her back. This also stays inline with both the feel and the lyrics within the music. This scene is very important. Due to Olly and the actor merging into one, as the girl walks through the metal Olly merges out the other side. This could signify them both walking into each others life's, but also meaning that they are walking out of each others life's.
  12. 12. This scene is important due to the recent slide where Olly is writing his letter. This just confirms to the audience that the song is revolved around a relationship and throughout the video gives the audience a story of what happened within the relationship and why It ended.
  13. 13. Conclusion • Overall Olly's video stays within the genre he has wrote the song in. Throughout the music video the style of writing ties in with the video itself. Olly’s style from the beginning has stayed throughout his time within the music industry. This ranges from colourful letters and how his pictures are taking and displayed on his albums and posters. Most of his typography is recognised due to it all being very similar during the years.
