There has been an explosion of Mobile Apps for Events and Conferences in the last few years. The demand from the Event planners, from the Attendees and from the Exhibitors is clearly there.
But what to look for when selecting a Mobile App for your Event?

  • 2. Which One? An explosion of Mobile Apps for Events and Conferences in the last few years. The demand from the Event planners, from the Attendees and from the Exhibitors is there. But what to look for when selecting a Mobile App for your Event? A ten minute overview of key features.
  • 3. Native or Web? Can you ensure solid wifi hotspots? If not, go with a native app solution, that allows people to “download” the event app before the event, and sync data when a hotspot is available. Native apps work best when wifi is unreliable.
  • 4. What form factors? Participants have a multitude of devices to access the Event materials, and expect a consistent experience for all devices: iPad, iPhone, Android phones and Android tablets, and Kindle fire devices. The often forgotten device is the PC, or the Mac…many participants still use these devices during events, especially in Corporate events. WRITE ONCE, PUBLISH ON ALL DEVICES.
  • 5. Custom Categories? Check the capability to add your own categories – Sponsors, Exhibitors or other Custom Sections. Can you do it, or are you being dependent on the app vendor to do that for you? Do you need to pay extra? CONTENT CATEGORIES LIKE SPONSORS OR EXHIBITORS

  • 11. Participants Alerts Can you message participants? Can you send an alert when things change? Can you leverage the iOS and Android native alerts technology? BASICS #6: BECAUSE THINGS HAPPEN
  • 12. Personal Calendar Event Participants create their own calendar by selecting from the list of topics. For organizers, an early heads up if some sessions will be overbooked. BASICS #7: CAN I CREATE MY OWN CALENDAR?
  • 13. Request more Info Event Participants cannot cover all exhibitors. However, they might still want to engage, and request more info. For exhibitors, an easy way to engage with participants. BASICS #8: ONE TOUCH “REQUEST MORE INFO” ?
  • 14. Directions to Dinner? Large events are spread across locations. Provide directions to them, in familiar formats. Google Maps integration is a good way to help attendees with directions. BASICS #9: INTEGRATION WITH GOOGLE MAPS ?
  • 15. One more little BASICS #10: HOW LONG IN thing…TRUST BUSINESS? HOW SECURE? Can you secure the meeting, and have SSL encryption for a corporate event?
