  2. 2. 2010 The Year of Biodiversity<br /> 2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity. It is a celebration of life on earth and the value of Biodiversity in our lives. This year people throughout the world have been asked to take action to protect Biodiversity for future generations.<br />
  3. 3. What is Biodiversity?<br /> Biodiversity is the variability of all living organisms .<br />Biodiversity makes up ecosystems and habitats that support living resources, including wildlife, fisheries and forests. It helps provide for our basic human needs such as food, shelter, and medicine<br />
  4. 4. Putting this simply<br />Biodiversity is life<br />Biodiversity is our life<br />
  5. 5. Why should we care about biodiversity?<br /><ul><li>Human activity is causing the diversity of life on earth to be lost at an accelerated rate (1000 times its usual rate!)
  6. 6. Biodiversity is essential to sustaining the living networks and systems that provide us with, health, wealth, food and fuel.
  7. 7. Without biodiversity life as we know it today would not exist.</li></ul>Humans are part of natures Biodiversity, we have the power to protect or destroy it.<br />
  8. 8. Some Facts<br /><ul><li>Two out of every three bird species are in decline worldwide.
  9. 9. One in every 8 plant species is endangered or threatened
  10. 10.   14. 14. Think about how our lives would be different If these were no longer here?. Imagine a world without enough oxygen and water? Or a world in which very few animals besides ourselves exist. Think about how this would impact our lives.<br />

  17. 17. Support companies that work in ways to reduce environmental damage.
