Dear Judges:
My name is Chelsie Medley and I’m a senior at Creekview High School. My senior project was
planning an event for seniors at an adult retirement home. I chose this topic because of my love
and dedication to senior adults in and around my neighborhood. My goal in planning this event
was to entertain the residents of Merrill Gardens at Roswell with an afternoon full of music and
games. In the end, the process of this project was both exciting and rewarding.
In my research paper for the senior project, I discovered that event planning is not as easy as it
seems. A lot of time and dedication is needed to make an event successful and memorable. I was
able to find this out myself when I began the process of planning the entertainment for the
assisted living home. I encountered many problems such as not having the materials on time,
having wardrobe malfunctions, and having cancelations. I was able to overcome these obstacles
by getting organized and prepared before my event was due to start.
My research paper relates to my topic because I was able to organize an event on my own and
experience the different difficulties and success that event planners experience. After being able
to experience this career field, I have decided not to pursue this career because of the stress and
time management that it requires. However, I have decided to continue planning events for fun
and entertainment in my spare time because I was invited back to the assisted living home that I
performed at. My plans for after school include going to college to earn an EMT certificate and
eventually my Paramedic degree.
After my experience with the senior project, I have come to respect its initial purpose. I believe
that the senior project should be optional for students instead of a major grade. Although I had a
decent experience with this project, it was a tough start and it was difficult to understand in the
beginning. It wasn’t until I saw other projects that I understood what exactly is expected of this
project. I do believe it is helpful in the end but I feel like it should be thoroughly explained.
Sincerely,
Chelsie Medley
