His Birth*Nelson Mandela was born in Transkei , SouthAfrica on 18 july 1918*His father was head of the famous tribe“Tembo”*He died and Nelson was still young, but hewas elected instead of his father and beganpreparing for the job*Members of his tribe titled him “Madiba”that mean “great revered” and has becomesynonymous with “Nelson Mandela”

His Education*Mandela completed his primaryschool in a boarding school in 1930.* Then he began preparation for aBA degree from “Fort Hare”University but in 1940 heseparated from the university withhis friend “Oliver Tambo” accusedof participating in a student strike.*He has followed his studying bycorrespondence fromJohannesburg and received BA andthen joined Witwatersranduniversity to study law.

His Political activity*Mandela began in the politicalopposition to the South Africanregime which was in the whiteminority’s hand.So that the judgment was deniedpolitical rights and social andeconomic development of theblack majority in South Africa.

A.N.C African National Congress*In 1943 He joined the AfricanNational Congress, which was callingfor the defense of the rights ofmajority in South the blackSenegal*In 1961, Mandela becamepresident of the military wing ofthe A.N.C*He held the presidency of theAfrican Council (June 1991 - toDecember 1997)

Nelson In Jail*In 1962 Mandela wasarrested and sentencedfor 5 years in prison forillegal travel, and themeasure of the strike.*In 1964 he wassentenced again accusedof planning for armedaction and high treasonand sentenced to lifeimprisonment.

*On 10 June,1980 Mandela was able tosend a message to the AfricanNational Congress .In which he said:“Unite! And equipped! And fight! Asbetween the anvil of the popularmovement, and the hammer of thearmed resistance, will crush theapartheid.”*He was offered his release versusstopping the armed resistance ,but herefused.*He remained in prison until 11February, 1990

Nobel Prize*In 1993,Nelson wonthe Nobel Prize forPeace with PresidentFrederick DeclarkWho was announcedto stop the ban thatwas imposed on theAfrican Congress

The presidency of South Africa*Mandela became the first blackpresident of South Africa (May1994 - to June 2000).*During his administration SouthAfrica has seen a major transitionfrom minority rule to majorityrule.*In 2005, chosen by the UnitedNations Goodwill Ambassador*In July 2008, U.S. PresidentGeorge W. Bushs approved todelete the name of Mandela fromthe list of terrorism in the UnitedStates of America
