    3. Partnership Goals & Objectives
      • Addis Ababa University (AAU) will establish itself as a center of reference in M&E of PHN programs for Anglophone Africa.
        • Strengthen institutional capacity to provide in-service M&E training for Anglophone Africa by September 2008
        • Build capacity of AAU to address in-country needs for M&E by September 2008
    4. Background of AAU-MEASURE Evaluation Collaboration
      • Three-week workshop in M&E of PHN programs
      • Targets mid-level health and population M&E officers
      • Two departments at AAU
        • Department of Community Health (now SPH)
        • Population Studies and Research Center (PSRC)
      • Core-funded activity
    5. MEASURE Evaluation Support to AAU
      • Training-of-trainer workshops (2)
      • Generic workshop materials for adaptation (curriculum, M&E tools, relevant publications, etc.)
      • Technical support and oversight to maintain quality & integrity of curriculum
      • Opportunities for AAU faculty to observe and participate in other MEASURE Evaluation M&E workshops
    6. MEASURE Evaluation Support Cont’d
      • Short-term visiting instructors to team-teach with AAU faculty
      • Logistical support for Regional Anglophone Africa M&E workshops
      • Funding for 2-5 fellowships for workshop participants per year
      • Creation of Institutional Capacity Building Plan for M&E

      • Conduct stakeholders meeting & capacity needs assessment
        • Identify strengths & gaps in institutional M&E capacity
        • Define collaboration goals & performance expectations
        • Identify benchmarks, next steps, timeline
      • Develop joint AAU-MEASURE Evaluation institutional capacity building plan
        • To support strengthening of AAU capacity in M&E training and activities in sustainable way
        • To create blue print for monitoring and evaluating the collaboration

      • Increase in sessions taught by AAU (without MEASURE Evaluation) at Regional Anglophone Africa M&E of PHN workshop
        • 2005 = 29% + 21% by AAU-invited speakers
        • 2006 = 29% + 29% by AAU-invited speakers
        • 2007 = 79%
      • Increase in overall workshop rating (maximum of 10 points):
        • 2006 = 8.2
        • 2007 = 8.6

    10. Achievements Cont’d
      • AAU organization of M&E workshop for Ethiopia MOH TB officers working at national and regional levels in 2006
      • Development of M&E track by AAU in its MPH program (ongoing)
      • Creation of permanent M&E training coordinator position by AAU in 2007
    11. Summary
      • As a result of MEASURE Evaluation assistance
        • AAU has moved from implementing the M&E workshop with significant TA to implementing the workshop with limited TA
        • DCH & PSRC faculty are well-trained in M&E
        • AAU is introducing an M&E track in its MPH program
        • AAU is providing M&E support to Ethiopian MOH
