Results: Training Programs <ul><li>Short-Term Training in M&E </li></ul><ul><li>- 7 Regional Workshops: HIV/AIDS, Impact, PHN, RHIS </li></ul><ul><li>- 140 professional trained from 12 countries </li></ul><ul><li> (407 applicants) </li></ul><ul><li>Master’s – level Degree Training in M&E </li></ul><ul><li>- Two Master’s Programs with M&E tracks: MPH and MHSc </li></ul><ul><li>- 36 students graduated/pursuing diploma in M&E, from </li></ul><ul><li>405 applicants </li></ul>

Results: Institutionalization of M&E <ul><li>Adopted “Health Program and Policy Evaluation” as a Strategic Line of Action </li></ul><ul><li>Creation of a new “Center for Program Evaluation and Surveys” </li></ul><ul><li>Creation of M&E Tracks in 2 Master’s degree programs </li></ul><ul><li>Creation of 2 new Diploma programs in Economic Evaluation of Health Programs and M&E of Nutrition Programs </li></ul><ul><li>Increased technical and logistical capacity to offer M&E training programs </li></ul>

Results: Involvement in M&E Practice <ul><li>Evaluating Mexican government health programs: Oportunidades (formerly Progresa ), Seguro Popular </li></ul><ul><li>Conducting regional workshops independently in LAC </li></ul><ul><li>INSP faculty participated with MEASURE Evaluation staff in TA to Honduras on HMIS strategic plan </li></ul><ul><li>Leading UNAIDS/WB-funded “AIDS Strategic and Action Plan (ASAP)” Consortium of 11 universities to provide TA on HIV Strategic Planning, mainly in Africa </li></ul>

    10. 10. Lessons Learned: Keys to Success <ul><li>Identify a “CHAMPION” in M&E </li></ul><ul><li>M&E identified as an institutional strategic priority. Identify that there is a market for M&E </li></ul><ul><li>Facilitate incentives for faculty participation in M&E: economic or professional advancement </li></ul><ul><li>Technical, financial and administrative capacity essential for long term sustainability of training programs </li></ul><ul><li>Seek institutionalization of M&E trainings </li></ul><ul><li>Building capacity requires a long-term commitment, persistence, lots of patience, and funding! </li></ul>
