  3. 3. The Robin Red Breast <ul><li>The robin red breast was designated Michigan’s state bird on April 8, 1931 </li></ul><ul><li>Robins are known to be the first sign of spring and can be found all over Michigan. </li></ul>Quit
  4. 4. The White Pine <ul><li>The white pine became Michigan’s state tree in 1955. </li></ul><ul><li>It can grow 50-80 feet tall! </li></ul><ul><li>The white pine grow well in Michigan because it prefers sandy soils. </li></ul>Quit
  5. 5. The Trout <ul><li>The trout became the state fish in 1965. These fish are found all over the state. </li></ul><ul><li>They are one of the better tasting fish for dinnner! </li></ul><ul><li>There are many kinds of trout, but in 1988 the state specified the ‘brook trout’ as the state fish. </li></ul>Quit
  6. 6. The State Flag <ul><li>The State Flag was adopted in 1911. The first flag displayed a portrait of Stevens Thomas Mason, Michigan’s first governor, on one side, and the state coat of arms (shown below) on the other. Today, only the coat of arms is displayed on the flag. </li></ul>Quit
  7. 7. The Apple Blossom <ul><li>The Apple Blossom became Michigan’s State Flower on February 9, 1987. </li></ul><ul><li>The blossom is very fragrant and pretty. </li></ul><ul><li>Michigan is also very famous for it’s apples, so this flower is very fitting. </li></ul>Quit

The Automotive Industry <ul><li>The Ford Motor Company was founded by Henry Ford in 1903, in Dearborn Michigan. </li></ul><ul><li>Michigan has numerous automotive plants. </li></ul><ul><li>Detroit has been nicknamed the “Motor City” because of it’s success in the auto industry. </li></ul>Quit
