Our unemployment rate has been driven down to 6.4%, well below the national average.

In 2008, our nation plunged into recession, making the problem even worse. • Since 2007, we have made tough choices, cutting over $9 billion in spending and eliminating 5,800 state government positions. • We put our budget on the path to surplus by 2017, while 86% of Maryland taxpayers now pay less in state income taxes than they did under the prior administration. we are 1 of only 7 states to maintain a triple a bond rating, from all three rating agencies, during the national recession.
