Illegal and sometimes plagiarized versions of Harry Potter novels distributed in China, steal characters and plots but alter them into sometimes different stories, or just straight rip offs There is also a Russian version of Harry Potter called “Tanya Grotter” that has caused controversy
Trade dispute because of the use of the name “Harry Potter” Warner Brothers the distributers of the Harry Potter movies complained that HariPuttar movie was too similar in name to their own movies and would profit off of the recognition(the plot of the movie more closely resembles Home Alone than Harry Potter) WB lost the case, Indian judge said that even though similar people will be able to understand that this is not a “Harry Potter” movie as the plots are so distinct
In 2008 a copy of “Midnight Sun” a new novel by Stephenie Meyer meant to give an opposing perspective on Twilight was stolen and leaked online, Meyer subsequently stopped the project, drafts of it can still be found online.
Example of very recent CP dispute:Left Side: AP Photo of Barack Obama from 06’ Right Side: Obama portrait by graffiti artist Sheppard FaireyCase: AP claims that Fairey stole and has profited off of their property, the picture taken in 06’ of Obama; Original picture found by Fairey on Google Images who then made the portrait on the right, portrait became big hit and was licensed for use by Fairey to the Obama campaign for fundraisers as well as other groups with Fairey given sole credit, AP claims the picture belongs to them and Fairey misappropriated their property and has licensed it without their permission they are seeking credit and compensation etc. Fairey claims Fair Use: 1. the purpose and character of your use 2. the nature of the copyrighted work 3. the amount and substantiality of the portion taken, and 4. the effect of the use upon the potential market.
Global Issue: +China and India are two of the biggest offenders of International Copyrights+Piratebay in Sweden was just recently shutdown its creators imprisoned for massive Copyright infringement +Strict New Anti-Piracy laws being passed or considered (Effectively Deputizing the Copyright Industries-Like in France)+Impact on Net Neutrality and Access+Contentious issue

After discovering this Amazon went into customers Kindle device libraries and deleted all ebook copies of the books which had been purchased by customers. So bad Congress and the FCC are stepping in to investigate the issue FCC wants answers as to why Google’s VOIP app for the Iphone was rejected Main concern here is how cell phone companies are restricting their networks and the level of control which handset manufacturers exercise Many instances of complaints leveled against unsure rules regarding apps for the iPhone as well as other devices

Media Life is a course intended for undergraduate s more
Media Life is a course intended for undergraduate students across campus. Its goal is to make people aware of the role that media play in their everyday life. The key to understanding a "media life" is to see our lives not as lived WITH media (which would lead to a focus on media effects and media-centric theories of society), but rather IN media (where the distinction between what we do with and without media dissolves).
