      • Joint committee of Select Board and School Committee
      • 9 members, representing broad interests of community
      • School Committee (2), Select Board, Fin. Comm, School Council, K-12 Parent, Town Administrator, Community members (2)
      • 1 . Identify and clarify current and future goals for the Town of Shutesbury and its residents regarding:
      • a. The delivery of quality education services and education outcomes for school-aged children.
      • b . The financing of education for Shutesbury’s school-aged children
      • c . The governance of the educational system.
      • d. The capacity to provide sustainable leadership and oversight of the educational system.
      • 2. Recommend a plan that can best achieve the future goals for Shutesbury.

      • Accounts for decreasing fiscal resources/ fiscal sustainability
      • Enables local control (vs regional control)
      • Promotes quality education
      • Helps provide evaluation criteria
      • Creates mechanisms for ongoing reflection/evaluation
      • Addresses Union 28 concerns
      • Supports human sustainability
      • Increases capacity and cohesion
      • Addresses need for good inter-town relations (intertownability)
      • Creates opportunities for advancing educational technology
      • Preserves school culture
      • Provides for balance between current school values and future realities re: technology, etc.
