Masters Series in Gynecology

  1. 1. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center present: Masters Series in Gynecology A CME Conference designated for 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ per session Pelvic Anatomy & Management of Surgical Hemorrhage October 2, 2013 Hysterectomy: Choosing the Right Path December 12, 2013 Single Port Surgery in Gynecology March 26, 2014 Pap Smear: The Screening & Management Strategies 25, 2014 June
  2. 2. Statement of Need: The increasingly frequent use of minimally invasive surgery in recent years, as well as the use of hemostatic agents in gynecology, has led to the need for the review of pelvic anatomy. There has also been a growing number of surgeries performed resulting in a greater chance of hemorrhage and complications. This has resulted in the need to review the different surgical techniques to control hemorrhage. Greater use of minimally invasive approaches to hysterectomy, including TLH and robotic instead of traditional abdominal and vaginal approaches, requires competence in identifying appropriate application of each modality. Recent updates in cervical cancer screening have led to the need for review of these guidelines. Changes in culture take three to five years and therefore having expert educators review specific issues will expedite the acceptance and utilization of newer technologies. Expanding lecture formats to workshops and Bioskills labs will further help integrate evidence-based medicine into clinical practice. Objectives: All North Shore-LIJ Health System CME activities are intended to improve patient care, safety and outcomes. At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to: n Perform a pelvic sidewall dissection and be able to identify critical pelvic landmarks/anatomy n List and compare the different hemostatic agents n Identify the different surgical techniques to control hemorrhage n Compare and contrast the different surgical approaches toward hysterectomy and identify the proper application of each modality n Demonstrate knowledge of single port surgical instrumentation and safe technique of entry n Review current pap smear screening, cervical neoplasia management and their applications in office-based practices Target Audience: Gynecologists, Obstetricians, OB/GYN Fellows, Residents and Medical Students Accreditation: North Shore-LIJ Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide Continuing Medical Education for Physicians. Credit Designation: North Shore-LIJ Health System designates this live activity for a maximum of 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ per session.
