COURSE DESCRIPTION Changing Lifestyle with Mind Body Medicine: How to Build Resiliency in Patients is designed to provide an introduction for healthcare professionals who plan to include self-care techniques or lifestyle interventions as part of their treatment for their patients. Scientific rationale for these interventions, evidence of efficacy, and skill development exercises are addressed in the course curriculum. The course will incorporate didactic lectures with case-based presentations, panel discussions and Q&A. Learners will be encouraged to participate in the discussions with faculty. Course components include learning: • Elicitation of the relaxation response • Cognitive/behavioral strategies • Self-care skills Herbert Benson, MD Darshan Mehta, MD, MPH • Physicians (all fields) • Psychologists • Primary Care Providers • Psychiatrists • Nurses • Social Workers • Health Coaches • Counselors TARGET AUDIENCE The target audience for this course includes health professionals who would like to incorporate self- management, lifestyle behaviors, and mind body medicine into their practice.The target audience, includes, but is not limited to: Peg Baim, MS, NP Herbert Benson, MD John Denninger, MD, PhD Gregory Fricchione, MD Leslee Kagan, MS, FNP Darshan Mehta, MD, MPH Edward M. Phillips, MD LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: • Demonstrate knowledge of the epigenetics and physiology of mind body medicine • Relate mind body strategies to allostasis and resilience • Help patients reduce conditioned habits of negative thinking through cognitive restructuring • Incorporate mind body interventions into personal well-being • Recommend lifestyle behavior changes such as more sleep, better nutrition or increased physical activity as they apply to individual patients COURSE DIRECTORS FACULTY
