Noble, MD COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides an overview of point-of-care ultrasound and reviews the evidence behind the major applications used in emergency and critical care medical practice. The course provides two days of hands-on instruction in image acquisition and image interpretation; the facul- ty-to-student ratio is never more than 1:5. At the completion of this course, students will have increased knowledge of how to incorporate point-of-care ultrasound into their practice and will have gained experience with image acquisition and interpretation. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course participants will be able to: • Describe what point of care ultrasound is and describe the diagnostic objective of each of the applications covered • Effectively use the basic functions of an ultrasound machine • Demonstrate the ability to acquire ultrasound images for each of the applications covered • Recognize normal and abnormal images for the applications taught TARGET AUDIENCE: This course is designed for medical professionals who would use point-of-care ultrasound in their practice (i.e. physicians and physician assistants, surgeons, internists and critical care medical specialists). We have had pediatricians who practice emergency medicine as well. ACGME COMPETENCIES: This course is designed to meet one or more of the following Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education compe- tencies • Patient care • Medical knowledge • Practice-based learning and improvement ACCREDITATION: The Harvard Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
