He is Clinical Professor of Medicine atUniversity of Colorado School of Medicine. His leadership in geriatricsand institutional medical care for a category of patients who have oftenbeen neglected, the elderly and disabled in long term care facilities,makes him a vital asset for internal medicine and the development of thePatient Centered Medical Home. Dr. McCartney has received numerousawards including the Vesta Bowen Award for care of adults withdevelopmental disabilities, the Mountain States Division Medical Directorof the Year from Life Care Centers of America and a twice recipient of theCertificate of Service of the Colorado Medical Society. He was a pastpresident of the Denver Medical Society. He was a leader and Trustee ofthe American Society of Internal Medicine at the time of the merger withACP and served as a Regent of the College from 1998 to 2001.
