NORTH CAROLINA DERMATOLOGY ASSOCIATION h TARGET AUDIENCE AND PURPOSE The North Carolina Dermatology Association is pleased to announce its 2014 Annual Meeting, to be held at the historic Pinehurst Resort in Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina. This course is designed for practicing and academic dermatologists, fellows, residents, medical students, and mid-level providers and will provide attendees the opportunity to learn new and updated information in medical dermatology, surgical procedures and legislative activity that will impact the future of health care delivery and dermatology. Objectives At the conclusion of this educational activity participants should be able to: • • • • • • • • • • Discuss techniques and expected outcome of scalp biopsies in the evaluation of alopecia. Review complex cases from an academic dermatology department and review lessons learned. Identify correct coding techniques and explain implementation of the latest ICD. Recognize variants of hemangiomas, when further investigation is required; and explain the recent advances in recommended management. Review the latest clinical material with guidance on diagnosis and current options for treatment in patients with pemphigus and bullous pemphigoid. Outline approaches to financial management of medical practices’ retirement plans. Analyze current perspectives and debate in the approach to Vitamin D levels, metabolism, supplementation, and the impact of sun avoidance and protection. Describe current sunscreens, their labeling, mechanism of action, and provide recommendations for patient education. Update current diagnostic criteria, therapies, and options in the evaluation and treatment of rosacea. Recognize hyperhidrosis in the pediatric population and explain current approaches to treatment, including topical, systemic, intralesional and surgical methods. AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM - 10.5 hours Credit Statement The Southern Regional AHEC designates this live activity for a maximum of 10.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The North Carolina Dermatology Association Annual Meeting (Program #358100) is recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology for 10.5 AAD Recognized Credit(s) and may be used towards the American Academy of Dermatology’s Continuing Medical Education Award. Accreditation This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials and Standards of the North Carolina Medical Society through the joint sponsorship of the Southern Regional AHEC and the North Carolina Dermatology Association. The Southern Regional AHEC is accredited by the NCMS to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Additional Credit Other health professionals will receive Southern Regional AHEC CEU and/or contact hours and a certificate of attendance from an AMA PRA Category 1TM activity. These certificates are accepted by the NC boards for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses. License requirements are subject to change. Southern Regional AHEC recommends that participants contact their licensing board with specific questions. Southern Regional AHEC will provide 1.0 Continuing Education Units (10.5 contact hours) to participants upon completion of this activity.

Disclosure of faculty/planning committee members and commercial relationships will be made known at the activity. Speakers are also expected to openly disclose a discussion of any off-label, experimental, or investigational use of drugs or devices in their presentations. Resort Features and Accommodations The Pinehurst Resort is a four-diamond, family-friendly resort featuring world-class golf courses, putting green, lawn sports, a European-style spa, and fitness center. Advance reservations are required for most dining outlets and recreational activities. To secure your accommodations, please use the form in this brochure or call the Pinehurst Resort at (877) 615-0407. The NCDA has set aside a block of rooms at a special rate of $168 plus 10% resort fee and taxes per night. The resort fee covers gratuities, afternoon tea, use of the fitness center, tennis courts, bicycles, valet and self-parking, and on-demand, on-property transportation. Please be aware that the resort does have a 30-day cancellation policy. The cut-off date to make reservations is December 18. Don’t delay! Registration Information The registration fee for this meeting is $175 per member physician, $225 per nonmember physician, $150 for PA/NP in member practice, and $175 for PA/NP in nonmember practice. The fee for emeritus/retired members is $100. Residents and medical students may attend the meeting at no charge. Registration fees include continental breakfasts, breaks and the Friday and Saturday evening receptions. Registrations received after that date will be charged a higher fee. Please note that refunds of registration fees will not be made after Friday, January 10. Refunds, less $25, will be made for cancellations received prior to that date. All attendees must sign in daily to receive credit.
