  • 2. Debate Procedure• Debaters take the floor, shake hands, and take their seats• Moderator will read the debate question being contested and will identify each side of the debate. – Debaters must acknowledge the moderator and ESPECIALLY the judges in their initial speeches.
  • 3. Affirmative Side• 1st Speaker – States proposition (thesis of this side’s position) – Leads into first contention • How their thesis is supported • Backs up thesis with evidence• Duration 2 Minutes
  • 4. Negative Side• 1st Speaker – Provides a Rebuttal to the first speaker’s opening speech – States proposition (thesis of this side’s position) – Leads into first contention • How their thesis is supported • Backs up thesis with evidence• Duration 2 Minutes
  • 5. Affirmative Side• 2nd Speaker• Rebuttal to Negative Side’s opening position• Leads into Second contention • How their thesis is supported • Backs up thesis with evidence• Duration 2 Minutes
  • 6. Negative Side• 2nd Speaker• Rebuttal to Affirmative Side’s positions• Leads into Second contention • How their thesis is supported • Backs up thesis with evidence• Duration 2 Minutes
  • 7. Open Discussion• Led by Affirmative side, any of the debaters can jump in and talk at any time• 5 minutes
