    • How To Become A Bounty Hunter In FloridaA bounty hunter captures fugitives and others for a financial reward. Technically, there is no suchthing as a bounty hunter in the state of Florida, and it is illegal to perform such an act. The men andwomen who recover defendants out on bail in the state of Florida are licensed bondsmen, oftenreferred to as "pickup guys" or "fugitive recovery agents. " Instructions1Call the Florida Department of Financial Services at 850-413-3137, ext. 1101, to find out if you arequalified to become a licensed bail bondsman in Florida.2Visit the Florida Security Agents Association (see Resources) website to enroll in its 120-hour course.The classes usually take two to three weeks to complete. During this time you will receive trainingfrom law enforcement and bail bond agent instructors. As of 2011, the course fee was $150.3Enroll in the correspondence course at the University of Florida, the INS 3 --- Bail & Bail BondInsurance --- at 352-392-1711. As of 2011, the fee for the course and course manual was $300. Youcan take levels one and two separately or at the same time, depending on your preference.4Obtain a Limited Surety Agent Temporary license from the Department of Financial Services (seeResources). You must submit fingerprints, a criminal history report and pay any required applicationfees to get your license.
