    Notes on slide 1

I’m Matthew Clobridge, the technology specialist at Sycamore Creek Elementary in Raleigh. We’re going to spend our time today discussing how Google’s suite of free tools can help you, your staff, and the community collaborate and communicate more effectively. First, what we’re not going to do. We’re not going to go step-by-step through how to use these tools. I’ll show you how we are taking advantage of them in our school by showing several examples of them in use. I do have step-by-step guides to Google Sites and Google Forms posted on my website which is listed on your handout. Many of the examples you’ll be able to check out live from our school’s website.

    28. Issues We Had
      • Because it is posted on the website, anyone can respond – potentially giving inaccurate results
      • Some responders entered response in words rather then numbers.
        • Ex. “2 adults and 1 child” instead of “3”.

    49. Staff Development
      • During initial teacher work week, I conducted an initial staff development session for Google Sites
        • Had 20-30 minutes with each group
        • Got them signed up with a Google account if they did not already have one, showed them the internal staff website and how to set it as their homepage, and had them setup a Google Site for their class.
        • Completed the site on their own and sent me the link for inclusion on the Sycamore Creek web site.

    54. Issues with Google Sites
      • No confidential student data on teacher websites or internal staff website.
      • In September/October Google tweaked their spam filters for Google Sites which led to a few of our teachers' sites being marked as spam.
        • Filled out the request for review from with Google and everything was back to normal within a day.
