Using audio podcasts to enhance learning

 1. 1. Using Audio Podcasts To Enhance Learning Uses and Simplicity that expands the classroom
 2. 2. Issues within traditional classroom

There are many restrictions that teachers and students face with the limited time shared within a classroom.

Normal time issues that constrict instructional time.

Insufficient time to explain topic(s), and or possibly review topic(s).

Lack of time to sufficeintly cover material and topic(s).

 3. 3. Why use audio/visual podcast to enhance learning

Podcasts are audio recordings that are available online and are relatively new to all classrooms. Knowing just what you need to podcast and how to create a podcast can be challenging.

Podcasting is amateur radio at its best: people from all around the world are recording their own broadcasts on topics ranging from technology to religion. Listeners subscribe to the broadcasts, which are downloaded to iTunes or to an iPod for listening on-the-go.

http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v = ExkMeQfuLGc

 4. 4. Why Podcasts Work Well

Podcasts let you interact with audiences in a way that blogs cannot. Writing down thoughts into words can take longer than simply recording them. Sharing thoughts verbally add a level of intimacy that written words sometimes cannot achieve. Hearing something first hand can lend to a greater understanding.

 5. 5. What Do Need to Begin Podcasting

Microphone: Some computers and laptops have built in mics, but if not, purchasing one is simple and relatively inexpensive.

Headphones: Some use headphones to hear what is being recorded, but they are not a must.

Software: There are many options available for free on the internet. Depending on what you are looking for, you can choose whatever you like. I choose to go with podomatic. www.podomatic.com

 6. 6. What I did for my first Podcast

For my first podcast, I simply just followed the directions of the website, and completed a short video podcast. I choose a video podcast, because it was not any different and I had a webcam. Here are two audio podcasts.

Here is a short one.

Here is a follow up.

 7. 7. Keys to a good podcast

There is more to it than simply clicking the record button.

You need to plan and prep before recording.

There needs to be structure. Breaks are important, and it is key to stay on topic and be concise. Don’t confuse them.

You need to be passionate, knowledgeable, and speak clearly. No one will listen to a podcast that is not down professionally.
