    • Attract national and foreign investments to modernize the economy and overcome structural bottlenecks;
    • Increase inter-regional trade, exploiting the economic complementation in the fields of energy, transport – access to new export corridors – and telecommunications;
    • Expand access to other markets.

    • Brazilian National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES).
  • 4. Initiative for Regional Infrastructure Integration in South America (IIRSA) ‏
    • An integrated system of logistics in South America through the integration of infra-structure.
    • Sectors : Transport, energy and telecommunications
    • Objective : Overcome obstacles to intra-regional trade
    • Coordinated by the twelve governments of South America and three financial institutions: IADB, CAF and the Prata Basin Development Fund (FONPLATA) ‏
  • 5. South America : A discontinous territory Cordillera of the Andes Amazon Forest Amazon River Wetlands Central-American Isthmus Which results in five “islands”: 1. Caribbean Platform 2. Andean Costal Strip 3. Atlantic Platform 4. Amazon Enclosure 5. South Amazon Enclosure 1 2 3 4 5 In IIRSA, the aim is to identify “bridges” that can unite the “islands” Source: Ministry of Planning
