  • 1. Penile Implants By: Cameron Moore, Jacob McCoy & Jamus McCray Part 1:
  • 2. Part One: Internet Search
    • Google- Over 479,000 hits.
    • Yahoo- Over 2,590,000 hits.
  • 3. Penile Implants
    • Penile implants is a device that is surgically implanted inside the penis that allows a man that suffers from an erectile dysfunction disorder to have an erection. (Mayo Clinic 2011)
  • 4. How Does it Work?
    • The penile implant is placed surgerically either through one incision under the scrotum or through an incision under the lower abdomen.
    • Usually the device is filled with saline and the patient has a pump which is hidden under the scrotum. By pressing on the pump the saline travels through a reservoir and travels into the device. (University 2011)
  • 5. How Does it Work?
    • The device has two chambers and when the chambers are inflated by the pump, the patient then has an erection.
    • When the patient is finished, they can deflate the device. (University 2011)
  • 6. Penile Implants
    • There is some risk to having penile implant surgery including that the implant will not work but with new updated surgical procedures and new materials the results have greatly improved.
    • Men with the penile implants generally say that there spouse is satisfied with the results. (Advanced)
  • 7. Penile Implants:
    • The surgery typically takes 15-20 minutes and only involves a 3-4cm incision and can be done as an outpatient basis (University 2011).
    • The recovery time takes usually 2 to 3 weeks and the patient can return to work in 2-3 days.
    • They can resume sexual activity within one month. (University 2011)
  • 8. What Type of Penile Implant?
    • There are many factors that play a role into finding the right penile implant. Some factors include age, penile size, scrotum size, history of previously implant, the patients medical history and other pending factors. (Advanced)
  • 9. What type of Penile Implant?
    • Some advantages include:
    • - Easy for you and your partner to use.
    • - The simplest surgical procedure compared to the
    • other types of implants.
    • - The least expensive of all the different types of
    • implant surgery (Advanced).
    • Some Disadvantages include:
    • - Abnormal appearance and feel
    • -Only 20% of the implants are performed in the USA
    • - Most amount of pain after surgery because the penis needs to adjust to a constant erection. (Advanced)
    Non Inflatable Penile Implant:
  • 10.
  • 11. What type of Penile Implant?
    • Advantages:
    • - Easy for you and your spouse to get an erection you just simply pump it up for an erection.
    • -The penis is not as rigid compared to the multi- component inflatable device.
    • Disadvantages:
    • - Abnormal feel & disappearance- described that the penis looks like a broom with a square head.
    • - Causes deterioration and thinning of the penile flesh over
    • a long period of time. (Advanced)
    Two Piece Inflatable Penile Implant:
  • 12.
  • 13. What Type of Penile Implant?
    • Advantages:
    • - Acts and feels more like a natural erection.
    • - The penis is more firm and full compared to the one
    • and two piece inflatable implants.
    • - Since there is a lot less pressure on the penile flesh
    • when it is not in use, pressure atrophy in the
    • remaining erectile penile muscle is less likely to
    • occur.
    • - Since the penis is flaccid after the surgery, the
    • patient has the least amount of pain during post op.
    • - No known disadvantages. (Advanced)
    Three Piece Inflatable Penile Implant

  • 16. Credible Websites:

    • The majority of articles read stated that over 90% of patient, spouses, and couples are satisfied with their prosthetic and it’s functionality.
    • The prosthetic is for medical reasons and not for sexual enhancement; therefore, those undergoing the procedure are satisfied that they are sexually functional, instead of being concerned with enhancement.
    • Like any other medical procedure there are risks and unsuccessful surgeries; however, it seems this procedure has been refined and the majority of the “kinks” have been worked out.
    • Finally, We believe the product is effective in it’s ability to restore the patient’s ability to engage in sexual activity and regain what was lost due to a medical issue
