    - Fabrication
  • 3. Why FabLab?
  • 4. 1.Sympathywith vision.
Just giving product might not work well when it broken or reach life time.
But sharing information how to make it will work. This is what I learned in Kenya.
  • 5. 2.Lack of skills.
When I tried to repair solar lanterns which are broken, but I could not do it because of lack of skills.
  • 6. Final Project
  • 7. Problem consciousness
In a village where there is no electrify in Kenya, people use kerosene lamp.
    But there are disadvantages.
    Emitting toxic smoke
    Risk of fire
    Running cost to buy kerosene
  • 8. Problem consciousness
Solar lantern could be alternative light by solving issues. But, still there are points to be improved.
Once it is broken or reach life time, you have to get another one.
Also, poor can afford to buy it because of high price
  • 9. Concept
Appropriate light that people in village can make it by using local available materials and tools.
  • 10. Fabrication- Dynamo lantern-

    Battery
    Solar lantern
Parts of generation, PV panel, and battery, H-Ni battery(Ni-CD battery), are expensive and it is not easy to get it at even in town. We need to think alternative way to meet the concept.
  • 12. Fabrication- Dynamo lantern-
    Generation
    Lantern
    Battery
    Dynamo lantern
To meet the concept, I would like to start to think to use dynamo as a generation and lead acid batteryas a battery
  • 13. Generation
There are so many people who do business with bicycle.
  • 14. Generation
It is effective to charge battery during the period of working
  • 15. Battery
There are so many motorbike in a village, so that lead battery is available there.
  • 16. Battery
There are batteries(worn-out battery) that can not work for motorbike but work for LED Lamp
  • 17. Battery
A box in which a battery is put inside is set in front of bicycle.
  • 18. h
    Battery
  • 19. Lantern
I designed the lantern whose concept is to use less material as much as possible but emit bright light.
  • 20. Lantern
  • 21. Lantern
I used the principleof light guide plate. The surface of acrylic glasswas scratched.
  • 22. Lantern
Number of LEDs I can use is three because of voltage of lead battery
