  3. 3. •Job seeker •Scholarship •College admission •Trade school Modify the resume and cover letter Have a basic version and revise for selected reader
  4. 4. Use keywords that are listed in job posting or application Nouns are better than strong verbs Include in resume and cover letter
  5. 5. • Always check for grammatical and spelling errors • Have digital friendly version for online submissions o No bullets, boxes, boldface, strange fonts, or indents • Keep resume length to 2 pages or less Review, edit, and revise
  6. 6. 1.Make sure all content is stated correctly. 2.Sell yourself based on your attributes. 3.Use cover letter to describe any issues. 4.Use social media wisely – others are watching. 5.Build a life and career of doing what is ethical.
  7. 7. Objective Statement Unique Focused Interesting
  8. 8.  State achievements not just job duties and responsibilities  Emphasize leadership experience  Include civic and volunteer work  List in chronological order with newest first
  9. 9.  Use skills & abilities to bring together experience, education, and special abilities.  Use “References available by request” unless specifically directed to include references in resume.
  10. 10. oMake your purpose clear – job, scholarship, college admission. oModify for each reader – keep it fresh. oMake sure letter is addressed to a specific person – avoid using generics. oInclude any reference numbers that corresponds to the posting. oKeep to one page with no grammatical and spelling errors.
