Hello, my name is Julie and today I am goingto be talking to you about Jupiter!! Jupiter isone of the largest planets in the solar system, and is the 3rd planet in line from the sun.Jupiter spins really fast. Did you know one dayon Jupiter is 10 hours on earth? Jupiter’smiddle core is stretched out, and the planetrather than round its short and fat. Jupiter isthe biggest planet in the solar system. Jupiteris a very stormy planet. There are storms foundthroughout the atmosphere, most stormsnever seem to end like the storm on Jupiter.
Jupiter’s Great Red Spot(GRS) is a storm that hasbeen raging in Jupiter’s southern Hemisphere forat least 400 years. 100 years ago, the stormcovered over 40,000 km of the surface. It iscurrently about one half of that size and seems tobe shrinking. At the present rate that it is shrinkingit could become circular by 2040. Scientists doubtthat this will happen because of the effect ofneighboring jet streams. The red spot is alsocalled “The Eye of Jupiter” because of its shape.
Jupiter is made up of gasand liquids, and is mainlycomposed of hydrogenand helium just like a star.
On Jupiter, like other planets, your weight changes. If youwere 70 pounds on earth, onJupiter you’re 185 pounds. This isbecause Jupiter is such a largeplanet and has lots of gravity.
Did you know Jupiter has rings? They arereally faint and only able to see whenJupiter passes by the sun. Jupiter has threerings, they are named Gossamer, Main, and Halo.
Jupiter has 50 official moons and 4unofficial moons. The four largest and mostwell-known moons are Io, Europa,Ganymede, and Calisto. Fun fact aboutthese moons if you look through binocularsat night you can see them. Jupiter has lotsmore moons too.
Jupiter was named after a Roman King ofGods. While it had many namesthroughout history, the Roman empire hadthe greatest influence of modern society.
