Slide Objective: Illustrate how Live@edu services can be used to make working in teams easy Highlight calendaring sharing within and outside organization, the audience should walk away form this slide understanding that we’ve really gone from just holding your calendar to allowing you to flexibly use your calendar and interact with others, internal and external, though your calendar.Talking Points:Students (and other users) can now share their calendar externally the way they currently share them internallyStudents (and other users) can now view multiple calendars in OWAHaving a view of not only your calendar, but others calendars is critical to being productivity. From a parent (professor) who needs to see a spouse’s calendar to know who’s night it is to pick up the kids, to the ability for team’s to share a calendar of critical events for all of the team members. Shared calendars are necessary to raise the level of productivity for the group. Likewise, coordinating with people outside your organization ahs been a manual process that now can be accomplished with the ease that we allow people to share calendars internally. This makes scheduling meetings with external partners fast, efficient and effective.
Objective/Goals: Excite audience around Web companions for Office client as example of PC, phone, and browser experiences. Slide Overview/Detailed Notes:Introducing “Office Web Applications”: Office Web Applications are designed to extend the familiar Office experience to any machine with a browser, for those situations where you don’t have access to your PC, and is available for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and OneNoteHere’s how it works: IT configures your SharePoint server to serve SharePoint documents and libraries more securely to the Internet via the Office Web Applications, rather like Exchange Server is often configured today to more securely serve your mail to a browser via Outlook Web Access. This means that all edits made via the Office Web Applications will be reflected when the document is opened on the client, and that all formatting is preserved throughout the “round trip” of editing. From a user experience point of view, you can think of this just like what can be done today on Outlook, Outlook Mobile, and Outlook Web Access. Note that Outlook Web Access obviously provides limited functionality as compared to the client, but all changes made there are preserved across all three of the modalities.Office Web Applications were also designed with collaboration in mind—one great benefit of the OneNote and Excel Web Applications is that they allow users to work together on documents in real time.View documents from your SharePoint libraries, with full fidelity, or just as you see them on your PC.Example—Look at a Word document on Office Web Applications and you will see exactly what a rich client Word user will see. You’ve got two options If you want to edit the document:Office Web Applications let you open any of the Office Client Applications on the PC if they are installed, giving you immediate access to the full rich editing environment of the Microsoft Office client. If the Office Client is not installed on the PC, you still have key editing capabilities, right in the browser. Each Office Web Application is tailored to give you the most important editing and collaboration options. You don’t get the full power of the Office rich client, but can make important “on the fly” changes to a document using nothing but the browser. Finally, one scenario is to use as a “safety net”:Help to assure teams through enterprise content management initiatives that when they put their documents on the server, rather than their hard drive, those documents will still be accessible quickly and easily from anywhere, without the need to establish a virtual private network connection.

The code for the tools is available now via CodePlex, an online portal created by Microsoft in 2006 to foster collaborative software development projects and host shared source code. Microsoft researchers hope that the tools will help the worldwide scientific community take new strides toward an AIDS vaccine.
