    • Human interaction over computer networks
    • The technology that enables this interaction (computers, cell phones, gadgets)
    • Information for people, information by people, information about people
    • Services that facilitate the above (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, etc.)
  • 4. Why is social media important?
    • Eliminates restrictions of distance and time
    • Filters existing relationships, quickly establishes new ones
    • Empowers individuals – people “ get things from each other ” ¹ instead of traditional organizations

  • 5. What can we do with social media?
    • Bridge building – Quickly, efficiently find the information we need about people; establish meaningful, mutually beneficial connections

    • Information Economy – Pinpoint needs (listen), find solutions (engage), improve messaging (storytelling-conversation)
