  • Who am I? I work at Samworth, attend SUGUK and hosted the last SUGUK event at the academy. Arsenal fan, XBL addict investing less and less time on COD MW2 thanks to Microsoft and their constant stream of great products. Big advocate of Microsoft products across the board.
  • Customization of the SharePoint UI  Essentially web Re-Design for a SharePoint site  Creating a unique design that expresses an organization’s identity
  • The Academy is an All Through Academy taking on students from 3 – 14 (at present) expanding to year 11 by September 2011 etc etc expand a little don’t waffle on.
  • The problem is that the Academy wants a professional looking website consistent to the “Brand” it has heavily invested in and that is attractive and useable, without the investment that it would take to outsource the job and the limitations which may follow. (limitation example is primary site and the Whitmore park site – No ftp access, waiting for updates etc same as coventry city councils moodledo roll out) Examples of school sites to follow.
  • Example of sites created for schools by “it techs” and maths teachers come techies alike. A common scene in schools where IT is not given the investment needed or indeed the development needed.
  • An IMO good site created by a company who profit from primary schools who do not have the capacity to produce a nice looking website in house.
  • All of these will provide us with good looking websites and in some cases, especially wordpress, branding support is available on a mass scale. However, we are here to talk SP and SP was my choice. IMO SP is made into much more of a competitor for Internet Sites thanks to the ribbon. Many more reasons, search etc but from a usability point of view the ribbon is a clear winner and a far cry from the previous editor.
  • End of setting the scene. Audience should be clear of where we are and want we want to achieve by this point. 10 mins in? So where’s the challenge we already know SharePoint is the answer!
  • Where do you fit, hopefully there’s someone from every area here despite Spencer Harbar and Bill English being on at the same time. Education leans heavily on its staff and more importantly on its IT staff to be a Jack of all trades. From questions like “my cars broken down you couldn’t come and have a look” to “There’s a leak in the roof what do I do”? Etc etc expand here.
  • This needs changing. Open twitter conversation ask questions speak to Harry too.

  • Needs expanding I think. Again follow on from previous comment.
  • A quick breakdown of where I’m going now 2 nd half of presentation.
  • Picture of the final finished Samworth Design.
  • There’s minimal and then there’s minimal. OOTB nothing special, doesn’t really help as I want more visual help and also it would be nice with some comments. Nice idea from Microsoft but presents a challenge as it doesn’t give a good.
  • An image of some of the ribbon states if someone happens to have missed this.
  • Worth showing the different masterpages at this point to put them into a bit more context when content some real world content is used.
