I don't know what I don't know. This core idea propelled the creation of a mobile mapping application and service ecology. I sought to design a finding service that enables a mobile user to leverage community driven knowledge in service of new information and experiences. Note: this project was created before the iPhone was actually released.

Noshi: Community driven finding + knowing service

  1. 1. x noshi community driven finding + knowing service by Matthew Muñoz (first year graduate student) May 5, 2007 Studio project in New Information Environments taught by Santiago Piedrafita
  2. 2. core issue i don’t know what I don’t know If new information environments could facilitate learning and productivity during my “down times,” I’d have more time to find out what I don’t know. This diagram shows the times during dEFInITIOnS CREaTEd by ThE FIRM lIvE|wORk and dOCuMEnTEd In “dESIgnIng InTERaCTIOnS” by bIll MOggRIdgE an average day in which I am most productive.
  3. 3. guiding principle
  4. 4. research question how can i find what i don’t know, using a new information environment?
  5. 5. what’s a new information environment? a context at the intersection of three areas: service design finding mobility
  6. 6. why service design? service design creates an intangible experience out of multiple touchpoints over time every touchpoint represents a design opportunity
  7. 7. ou dEFInITIOnS CREaTEd by ThE FIRM lIvE|wORk and dOCuMEnTEd In “dESIgnIng InTERaCTIOnS” by bIll MOggRIdgE http://www.jjg.net/ia ² ²
  8. 8. why research finding? finding consists of: searching — looking for a specific place browsing — looking for multiple places in proximity to user community-based databases provide information (flickr, myspace, citysearch) maps enable users to find information
  9. 9. p://www.jjg.net/ia
  10. 10. why research mobility? mobility embodied by the Apple iPhone. advanced mobile computer large screen real estate touchscreen interface 2.0 megapixel camera next generation models may include GPS
  11. 11. who is the target audience? technologically savvy individuals who seek new knowledge, experiences and efficiency anytime in the day or night, but especially during “down times” while in between spaces essentially, people such as myself i’m a curious, 26 year-old graphic designer living in raleigh, north carolina
  12. 12. research conclusion / core system behavior design a finding service that enables a mobile user to leverage community driven knowledge to create new information and experiences based on databases of keyword and geotagged locations a good friend eager to suggest places i’d like

  48. 48. cultural impact? on a cultural level, this finding service could lead to a state of “ubiquitous discovery” everyone knowing what they don’t know what a world...
