FRANCISCO PIZARRO’S LIFE STORY
2. Pizarro’s Beginnings
1478 – Pizarro born in
Trujillo, Spain
Childhood – “swine
handler”: performed
tricks with pigs.
Spent part of his early
life in Hispaniola – the
Spanish base of the
New World.
3. His Exploration Beginnings
Pizarro had become friends with Vasco Nunez de Balboa
and he served as Balboa’s chief lieutenant when they
explored the coast of South America.
1513 – Panama
Pizarro settled in Panama City and became one of its
most famous and richest citizens.
1524 – rumors about Peru and the Incan empire spark
Pizarro to search for the empire.
4. His Plot with the King
Pizarro beckoned King Charles I
(Spanish king) to aid him in the
conquest of the Incas.
He sent spies in to the house of the
Incan ruler, Atahualpa.
Pizarro surprise-attacked the empire
and conquered Peru in 1533 after
Atahualpa was executed.
5. Pizarro’s Impact
Pizarro’s impact is felt in all of the Incan areas.
Countries like Peru, Bolivia, Columbia, etc. all have
Spanish influence due to Pizarro’s conquests.
The conquest of the Inca Empire allowed a lot of gold to
be brought into the Spanish empire.
A 17th century Spanish
lock made of pure gold.
