It does, however, allow you to extend therange of your training, enabling you to accomplishmore easily some things that are difficult or impossibleto do using purely traditional means.Myth 2 Exploded E-learning is not confined todistance learning courses. It can be integrated withface-to-face learning to greatly enhance the studentslearning experience.This type of learning is called blendedlearning. Some applications of e-learning, such asmaking material available online, can help students topreview before class and review afterwards.Myth 3 Exploded E-learning does not requirechanging to pedagogy or philosophy of teaching.E-learning in itself does not prescribe any particularway of learning. The path is inherent not in the toolbut in the instructional design, that is, what youchoose to build with the tool.Myth 4 Exploded The virtual environment is notPowerpoint nor boring. A wide range of tools andinteractive techniques are available to enhanceonline learning experiences, so there is no need tobe limited to a presentation format.Myth 5 Exploded E-learning is not a quick and easysolution to all problems. In practice, e-learning is justanother tool, not a ‘magic bullet. Effective trainingdepends on sound instructional design. E-learningmay, help increase student engagement, reachstudents with various learning styles, and encourageactive learning.

It may mean doingsome of the same things in new ways. It may meanreplacing some of your normal teaching tasks withothers.Myth 7 Exploded Blended learning is not just onesolution or approach; it comprises a range of toolsthat can be used in various ways. The crucial factorin choosing which technology to use is the addedvalue to the effectiveness of your teaching.Your choice should be suited to the specific needs ofyour course.Myth 8 Exploded E-learning is not prohibitivelytime-consuming. Assumptions about time in relationto e-learning are often contradictory. At oneextreme is the idea that using e-learning requires toomuch time to be practical at all. At the other extremeis the idea that e-learning will drastically cut down onlearning time. The truth resides somewhere in themiddle.Myth 9 Exploded E-learning does not have anegative impact on participants. Sometimestrainers are afraid that use of e-learning will reducestudent participation.This has been shown not to be the case. Forexample, putting lecture notes or presentationsonline frees them from note-taking so that they canlisten to lectures more attentively.Myth 10 Exploded It can save time and allow staffto reach more students, but trainers will always beneeded to create the content of any course ormodule, even though the delivery method may bedifferent.
