HISTORY San José del Fragua was funded by a group of colons, who wanted to establish a town in the Fragua’s river region in 1959; it was named ‘San Jose’ in honor of the Italian priest Jose Fusarolli who was one of the founders of the town. It received the status of municipality in 1985.
