  • 1. UnderstandingC&D Processing
  • 2.  C&D Processors are regulated solid waste handling facilities There are 16 permitted facilities in Massachusetts Each processor is required to operate their facilities according to a documented and recorded waste ban plan These plans describe in detail the staffing levels, sorting/recycling equipment and floor plan layout necessary to operate the facility Each processors is required to submit accurate records on all incoming and outgoing material
  • 3.  Incoming debris is weighed at the scale house Loads are then inspected for hazardous material (suspected asbestos containing material) and waste ban items Approved loads are then unloaded on the plant’s tipping floor Large easily identifiable materials are separated on the tipping floor and stored in designated areas The remaining material is pushed up to a feeder pile An excavator with a grapple sits on top of the pile and feeds the recycling equipment line
  • 4.  The recycling line separates the material by size 6”- material is conveyed over a magnet to remove ferrous material and then sent up a conveyor belt and fed into a destoner which uses forced air to remove the heavy material (ABC) while the lighter material is blown out the back of the conveyor belt The 6”+ material is run over a star screen to remove fines/dirt and then conveyed up a manual sorting line where laborers segregate the material by type The material is dropped below to storage bunkers
  • 5. Arriving material gets weighed on theincoming scale
  • 6. The load is inspected and tipped on the floor
  • 7. The the material is pushed up to a feeder pile and an excavatortrickles the material onto the recycling line
  • 8. Material is hand sorted and dropped to storage bunkersbelow
  • 9. Aggregate Aluminum Cardboard PlasticsLight Iron Asphalt Shingles Gypsum Wood Chips
  • 10. Sorted products are shipped to end markets by 100 yard trailers or railcars
