  2. 2. The brain of the ant <ul><li>The insect with the largest brain in propotion to size is the ant.They are the smartest insects with 250,000 braincells. </li></ul>
  3. 3. THE PREDATORS <ul><li>A giant anteater can tear up a ant hill in minutes .The anteater can eat twenty thousand ants in one meal. </li></ul><ul><li>A ant lion digs a sand pit that is shape as a triangle.Then when a ant looks into the pit,the ant lion tosses sand at the ant so it would fall. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Nurse ants <ul><li>Ants lick the larvae so they do not dry out,and feed them so they could grow. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Foragers <ul><li>The oldest ants search for food.most foragers search within fifty feet of the nest,but if food is scarce,they may travel thousands of feet. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Guards <ul><li>When ants first leave the nest , they stand near the entrance,blocking strange ants from entering. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Queen tender <ul><li>Small ants help the queen lay eggs .The small ant grabs the eggs with there mandible. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Diging ants <ul><li>They dig holes, move a pile of dirt 6 inches high and inches wide they load 500,000 loads of dirt. </li></ul>
  9. 9. How do ants fight ? <ul><li>Ants fight by ejecting a spray of formic acid at their victim from the end of the abdomen. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Ants mandibles <ul><li>These powerful jaws could serve as inspirations for the propulsion systems of miniature robots used for rescue operations </li></ul>
