AromaTouch Hand Technique -4/2009 - JyR3Selecting the Right Oil• Before starting, ask the person how they are feeling.– Are they ill, do they have a headache, or allergies?,– Do they have n upset stomach or pain somewhere?– Are they stressed or agitated?– If not then ask what their favorite oil is.• Depending on their answer you may want to select an Essential Oilsuited their condition.• If they aren’t suffering from anything specific, use either theirfavorite oil or AromaTouch™ when the oil application step comes.• Bottom line – there is no wrong oil.• Between the technique and the oil - Any oil selected will benefitthe person in some way.

Start in the center of the wristand stretch outward using firm but gentlepressure.• DorsalStretchDorsalStretchDorsalStretchDorsalStretch– Continue down the hand andstretch the entire hand by cupping the hand withboth of yours – tucking your fingers into the palmthen running your thumbs outwards across theback of the hand from center to the outer edges;continue until you reach the edges of the fingers.1 234

AromaTouch Hand Technique -4/2009 - JyR5Relax the Hand - Palm• PalmarPalmarPalmarPalmarStretchingStretchingStretchingStretching– Starting at the wriststretch the entire hand open by placingyour fingers on the back of the hand andthen running your thumbs outwardsacross the palm of the hand from centerto the outer edges; continue until youreach the edges of the fingers. Usually 4or 5 stretches will cover the full hand.• Perform the series of stretches 1-2-3times as you feel the person needs torelax the hand.1234

AromaTouch Hand Technique -4/2009 - JyR6Massage the Hand Sections• The hand is divided into 3 sections:– Section1Section1Section1Section1 is off to the side and the healfrom the thumb– Section2Section2Section2Section2 is the heal and mid sectionbelow the pinky– Section3Section3Section3Section3 is from the center of the palm,out to the sides of the hand and up to allthe edges of the fingers• Using gentle but firm pressure massageeach section starting with 1 then 2 then 3to loosen the hand and increase the bloodflow.123
  7. 7. AromaTouch Hand Technique -4/2009 - JyR7Applying the Oil• Now that the hand has been relaxed and massaged it isready to receive the oil. Place 2 or 3 drops of EssentialOil into the palm of the person.• Using your hand spread the oil from the palm outward tothe fingers. You don’t need to rub it in just gentlydistribute the oil over the palm and fingers of the hand.• The oil should soak in quickly and start to circulatethrough out the persons system.

AromaTouch Hand Technique -4/2009 - JyR8Working Energy Meridians of the Hand• With the hand divided into the five energymeridians start with meridian 1 and work fromthe central wrist point outward to the very end ofthe thumb.• The process used is called a ‘thumb crawl’ and isdone by placing each thumb – left then right thenleft . . . Over each other to ‘crawl from the wristout to the end of each finger.• When you get past the hand and onto each finger,use youryouryouryourfingers to support the persons fingerapplying pressure on both the upper and underportion of each finger thus stimulating bothsides.• Do the full hand then start again as needed.• Perform this 1 – 2 – 3 times is necessary tobalance the persons energy.12345

AromaTouch Hand Technique -4/2009 - JyR9Final Stretches• InterInterInterInter----phalangealphalangealphalangealphalangealStretchStretchStretchStretch– With the your thumb on once side and your finger on theother side of the hand, place your thumb and forefingerin-between the pinky and ring-fingerof the person.– Reach in past the knuckle point of the hand as far downto the wrist as you can reach. You will feel the softtissue between the bones of the hand. You know when tostop when you reach the connective bones near thewrist.– Appling gentle but firm pressure squeeze your thumband finger together and pull outward towards thefingers.– Repeatthis step in-between each of the fingers of thehand as shown.• FingerPullsFingerPullsFingerPullsFingerPulls– Gentle pull each finger from the base to the tip as yourub it between your thumb an forefinger.
  10. 10. AromaTouch Hand Technique -4/2009 - JyR10Finishing the Process• Check back with the person and see if they recognize anychanges. It can be one of the items they noted as aproblem before starting the technique or somethingcompletely different.• Ask them to be mindful of anything they feel over the nextfew hours or even days and let you know so you can noteit.• You should also note anything you observe – changes tocoloring or mood. Watch for body language as it may saymore than their words.
